| Precautions | May increase serum amylase and serum prolactin concentrations when administered with thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) therefore affecting some laboratory values. |
| Contra-Indications | Newborn or premature infants; nursing mothers; hypersensitivity to cyproheptadine and other drugs of similar chemical structure; monoamine oxidase inhibitor therapy; angle-closure glaucoma; stenosing peptic ulcer; symptomatic prostatic hypertrophy; bladder neck obstruction; pyloroduodenal obstruction; elderly, debilitated patients. |
| Side Effects | Blood dyscrasia after prolonged use, anaphylactic reaction, hepatitis, neurological and psychiatric disturbances, dry mouth, difficult in micturition and urine retention, Gl disturbances. |
| Dosage | Allergies and pruritis: Adult; 4mg TID (max. 32mg daily), 7-14 years; 4mg BD or TID (max. 8mg in 4-6 hours period). Appetite stimulant: Oral, 4mg TID with meals. Promotion of weight gain: treatment period should not exceed six months. Vascular headache suppressant: Oral, 4 mg at the start of the attack, repeated after thirty minutes if necessary. Maintenance: Oral, 4 mg every four to six hours |
